March 18, 2025 - Spring Cleaning Your Automation Stack: A Mid-Q1 Audit

As the first quarter winds down, it's the ideal moment to take stock of the systems you stood up in January. Too many teams deploy robotics and automation in a burst of New Year ambition, then never circle back to measure whether those deployments are actually earning their keep. Spring is for cleaning, and that applies to your automation stack as much as your garage.

Start with utilization. A robotic cell running at 40% capacity isn't a productivity win — it's idle capital. Pull the logs, look at uptime versus scheduled runtime, and flag anything sitting cold. Next, revisit your exception rates. Early-year deployments tend to accumulate workarounds and manual overrides that quietly erode the ROI you projected. Finally, talk to the operators. The people standing next to the machines every day know which "automated" processes still depend on a human nudge.

At Alcove Robotics, we treat the Q1 audit as a checkpoint, not a verdict. The goal isn't to rip and replace — it's to tune. A well-maintained system in March is a profitable system in December.
