July 29, 2025 - Beating the Heat: Why Summer Is the Hardest Season for Your Robots

Mid-summer is peak production season for a lot of our clients — and it's also when we field the most service calls. The reason is simple: heat. Robotic systems are far more sensitive to ambient temperature than most operators realize, and a warehouse that's comfortable in April can become a thermal stress test in late July.

Servo motors and drive electronics generate their own heat, and when the surrounding air is already warm, cooling margins shrink fast. The symptoms are subtle at first: slightly slower cycle times, the occasional thermal fault, a fan that runs constantly. Left unaddressed, these turn into derated performance and shortened component life. Lubricants thin out, tolerances drift, and the precision you paid for starts to slip.

The fixes are mostly unglamorous and highly effective. Verify your enclosure cooling, clean every filter, and check that nothing is blocking airflow around drive cabinets. If your facility lacks climate control in the work cells, even spot cooling can buy you meaningful headroom. Summer rewards the prepared and punishes the complacent — plan accordingly.
